Ticks on Film via JoVE 

The Division of Bacteriology & Parasitology at the Tulane National Primate Research Center brings us Feeding of ticks on animals for transmission and xenodiagnosis in Lyme disease research." (J Vis Exp. 2013 Aug 31;(78). doi: 10.3791/50617)

This new faculty publication is especially notable because it is published in JoVE: the Journal of Visualized Experiments, a journal platform which provides videos of experiments and protocols, in addition to research papers. The 8 minute video describes the process of inoculating ticks with the Borrelia burgdorferi (a spirochete bacterium transmitted by Ixodid ticks), and using them to infect animal models such as mice and monkeys in Lyme Disease research. The accompanying author's manuscript is available for free in PubMed Central.

UPDATE: 24/7 area is now open (minus one study room)

The 24/7 study area of the Matas Library is now open. The carpets were cleaned by Facilities last night to finish cleaning up the damage from Tuesday night's flooding event.

One study room in the 24/7 area will remain closed until further notice. Wet ceiling tiles were missed and not removed until last night. There is a sign on the door indicating which room is closed. Facilities will be working to clean that room today. Please do not open the door because the room smells horrible.

Thank you for your understanding these past few days.

LIBRARY CLOSED - 24/7 AREA and DESK - April 23rd, Wednesday

The Matas Library experienced a flooding event on all levels in the evening of April 22nd.  The Library staff will be managing and moving wet books and journals to refrigerator trucks arriving on Wednesday morning.

Please excuse the unexpected closure.

A leading app for healthcare professionals, Epocrates RX is a point-of-care app that allows you to:

New book spotlight: State and Metropolitan Area Data Book 2013

Added to the Matas library collection in December, the State and Metropolitan Area Data Book 2013 is a convenient summary of statistics on the social and economic structure of the states, metropolitan areas, and micropolitan areas in the United States.

Statistical data is divided into four parts:

• Part A. States
• Part B. Metropolitan areas and metropolitan divisions
• Part C. Metropolitan areas and metropolitan divisions with their component counties
• Part D. Micropolitan areas with their component counties

This book is designed to serve as a statistical reference and guide to other data publications and sources. All data have been updated to the most recent available year.

The State and Metropolitan Area Data Book 2013 is available on the new books rack in the Matas Commons area.
