NIH Public Access Policy Compliance deadline is July 1, 2013!!

Attention faculty and researchers!

The deadline for Public Access Compliance for peer-reviewed publications resulting from NIH-funded research is July 1, 2013.

NIH will delay processing of your grant funding if all publications arising from NIH funding are not in compliance with the Public Access Policy.  

To assist you with meeting these compliance regulations, the Matas Library is offering on-demand workshops by appointment.

A new My NCBI feature now available in “My Bibliography” facilitates the management of publication compliance with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Public Access Policy. From the new “Awards View” eRA Commons users are able to see whether their publications are compliant with the Policy, start the manuscript submission process, associate their NIH extramural awards with their publications, and designate delegates to manage their bibliography via My NCBI.

Global Health: Science and Practice: New online, open access journal

USAID and the Schools of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University and George Washington University created an open-access, peer-reviewed journal for the global health community, particularly program implementers, to contribute to and benefit from a dialogue based on science and practical programmatic experience.

Dr. Steven Phillips, National Library of Medicine (NLM) Associate Director for Specialized Information Services, came from Bethesda, MD, to make this (recorded) presentation on Friday, November 9, 2012 for the Global Health Forum of the 100th anniversary of the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He and his staff have been involved in NLM efforts to assist in disaster preparedness and response in the US (e.g., Hurricane Katrina) and other countries, e.g., Haiti, Japan, etc. He is leading the effort to establish a Disaster Information Management Research CenterDisaster Information Management Research Center at the NLM.This Center, totally devoted to disaster informatics, is the first of its kind in the world.

Chad Stephen Miller, MD, Director of Student Programs for the Department of Medicine, was presented the 2013 Teaching Scholar Award by Dr. Benjamin P. Sachs in a ceremony on Friday, March 22, 2013. David S. Franklin, PhD, Professor  of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, was the 2013 Teaching Scholar Award Finalist.

The Teaching Scholar Award was established as the Chancellor's Teaching Award in 1997 by Chancellor John C. Larosa, M.D.

Studying for the USMLE?  EXAM MASTER OnLine just released a new USMLE Step 1 practice exam that offers carefully selected premium questions based on user performance and degree of difficulty. While based on our previous well-known Step 1 practice exams, this new version contains psychometrically evaluated questions.  Tulane users will still need to register for a personal account in EXAM MASTER OnLine access this new content.

Rudolph Matas Library is pleased to offer the latest print edition of the American College of Physicians' (ACP) MKSAP 16 Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program for 2 day checkout from the Matas Library Commons.  There are two parts with  10 individual volumes.  AMA PRA Category 1 Credits are available until July 31, 2015.

 The Matas Commons has a number of student recommended programmed texts from such series as BRS, Case Files, First Aid and more.  Ask for these books at the Matas Information Desk.  Books in the Commons area check out for 2 days.  Holds are allowed for books currently checked out.
