Established by medical students at LSU Shreveport, the American Medical Student Research Journal (AMSRJ) aims to make the research and publishing process more accessible to medical students. This publication will be authored, reviewed, and edited by medical students (in association with faculty members) to help promote interest in research and to develop a platform for the development of the critical thinking skills needed to succeed in medical practice. This student journal will be only the second of its kind in the United States.
The creation of AMSRJ was completely student-driven, with students funding the registration of the journal as a non-profit corporation and the application for federal trademark permissions. The journal is aiming to keep submission to AMSRJ free, as opposed to charging a submission fee like other open-access journals.
The AMSRJ team has announced January 31, 2014 as the deadline for submissions for their inaugural issue, which will be published online in Spring 2014.
