NLM Announces Health Hotlines App for the iPhone

The National Library of Medicine’s (NLM) Health Hotlines is now available as an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch (http://itunes.apple.com/app/health-hotlines/id376404746?mt=8). Health Hotlines is also compatible with the iPad.

Health Hotlines is a compilation of organizations with toll-free telephone numbers to assist the public in locating health-related information. It is derived from DIRLINE, NLM’s Directory of Information Resources Online, which contains descriptions of almost 9,000 health and biomedical organizations and resources. Some of the subject areas included in Health Hotlines are AIDS, cancer, diseases and disorders, maternal and child health, aging, substance abuse, disabilities and mental health.

Health Hotlines is also available on the NLM’s website.

Flashcards: A new feature in Exam Master Online

Current users of Exam Master Online will find a new Flashcards feature available once you log in to your personal account.

Select "Flashcards" in the list of buttons on the left and you will find the ability to create individual flashcards and also file them into flashcard groups. You have the ability to create, edit, and view your flashcards. There is a help file to guide new users through the process. You may also convert any of your study notes into a flashcards. You will see a new option at the bottom of your study note to "Make this note a flashcard".

Disaster Management Guide Updated

There is an update of the Oil Spill on the Matas Subject Guide for Disater Mangement. There are tabs for information concerning the Gulf Oil disaster and the health impacts of oil spills.

We would like to welcome new residents and fellows to the Tulane community. To discover the best study spaces, computer availability, and how to use library resources and services. Upcoming Changes for NIH Public Access Policy: My NCBI’s “My Bibliography”

As of July 23, 2010, Project Directors and Principal Investigators (PD/PIs) will be unable to enter citations manually into eRA Commons and must use My NCBI’s “My Bibliography” tool to manage their professional bibliographies. In the interest of easing investigators’ bibliography management, improving data quality, and ensuring compliance with the NIH Public Access Policy, eRA Commons has partnered with the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) to link NCBI’s personal online tool, “My NCBI,” to Commons. My NCBI offers an online portal—“My Bibliography” for users to maintain and manage a list of all types of their authored works, such as articles, presentations and books. [See entire press release ]

World Blood Donor Day - June 14, 2010

June 14, 2010 has been chosen by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the day to recognize those that donate blood. The annual event focuses on motivating people to become donors. The focus of World Blood Donor Day 2010 is on young donors with the slogan: "New blood for the World." For more information, visit the WHO Web site.
