NEW - First Consult -- an evidence based point of care tool in MDConsult

Director, Rudolph Matas Library of the Health Sciences

Tulane health sciences faculty, students, residents and staff now have campus wide, and remote access to MD Consult for which we formerly had only a 5-user access limit. In addition we now have access campus wide to FIRST Consult – the evidence based point of care tool, which is part of the MD Consult suite of resources. Please access First Consult from within MD Consult at http://www.mdconsult.com/ or from the library’s web page at medlib.tulane.edu.

There are brochures and flyers which have information and brief previews of First Consult in the Matas Library. Classes and seminars will be available. Please let the Matas librarians know if you are interested in the Evidence Based Medicine and Point of Care seminars.

The library is making every effort to provide increased and improved access to resources. On that note we are negotiating access to EMBASE, a critical tool across the Health Sciences disciplines for clinicians and researchers that enhances current Medline by providing more international access to journal articles NOT published in Medline, including access to more pharmacology and pharmaceutical research.

New: Database & Article Finder (MetaLib) ... beta testing for searching multiple databases

MetaLib, a suite of tools for searching across multiple databases, as well as for database discovery, is now live in beta testing. It is linked from the from the Matas Library website as “NEW Database & Article Finder.” It is located at metalib.tulane.edu. Please try it out. If you have any observations or questions, feel free to contact the Matas Librarians at medref@tulane.edu.

Over the course of the summer, we will be making choices for health science database categories and gathering feedback from users. Further modifications to enhance usability and aesthetics, integrating it with the library’s web sites, and creating instructional materials are in the works. We hope that this will become a valuable new tool to enhance our users' ability to locate research materials over the many electronic resources available to Tulane users.

Swine Influenza A (H1N1) - News & Updates

Swine Flu Investigation

The CDC is actively investigating isolated human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) in several states (CA, TX, OH, KS, NY) and is working closely with Canada and Mexico and with the WHO. The CDC is continuously updating investigation information

As with any infectious disease, CDC recommends that people should take everyday preventive actions.

Cardiosource Plus NOW available to the Tulane community

Cardiosource Plus now available to Tulane Users.

This resource is a portal for Cardiology core content and includes American College of Cardiology journals, self-assessment programs, CME/CE credit resources and tools, and Heart Songs 2.

Cardiosource Plus is made available to the Tulane community by the Rudolph Matas Library, the Department of Medicine at Tulane University and the Tulane University Heart & Vascular Institute.

Users will need to create an account to use the CME resources. There is no charge for a personal account. You must be on the Tulane computer network to create an account.
